Coaches and Directors
This is Scott Erdman's seventh year as Head Coach of Hinsdale Swim Club. Coach Scott has spent the last 20 years coaching, 9 of these as a full-time coach. Prior to choosing to coach full-time, Scott worked as a Forensic Engineer initially and then as an Engineer working on Power Plant Design and Construction. He coaches with a progressive/energetic philosophy he has derived from combining the styles of all the coaches for which he swam. Scott has the goal of bringing swimmers to the national level of competition and beyond. However, his main goal is to help every swimmer get the most out of their time in swimming both by improving in the water and as a well-rounded person.
Some of his individual swimmer coaching accomplishments include:
- Coaching 2 swimmers at 2012 Olympic Trials, 3 swimmers at 2016 Olympic Trials (including a Finalist), 1 swimmer at the 2021 Olympic Trials, and being involved in coaching 4 swimmers at the 2024 Olympic Trials (including a Finalist)
- Coaching a swimmer to 2015 World Championships (Top 40 finish)
- Coaching approximately 75 Illinois State Champions (both individuals and relays)
- Coaching Illinois Swimming State Record setting individuals and relays
Some of his overall coaching accomplishments include:
- Guiding HSC to Bronze Medal Status in the USA Swimming Club Excellence Program in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
- Coached HSC to ALL Top 3 finishes at Illinois Swimming Short Course Senior State between 2020 and 2024 including a State Championship in 2023.
- Coached HSC to ALL Top 10 finishes at Illinois Swimming Age Group State (both Short Course and Long Course) between 2021 and 2024.
- Coached HSC to 3 consecutive Top 12 combined team finishes in the NCSA Spring Championships from 2021-2023 culminating with a 10th place combined finish in 2022
- Coached the NCSA Spring Championships men’s 400 freestyle relay Champions in 2021
- Coaching at Pro Series and Senior National Meets
- Coaching at Junior National level meets for the last 17 years
- Being elected by Illinois Swimming to coach Elite Camps in 2015, 2017 and 2018
- Receiving American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Certificate of Excellence in 2017 for coaching an A-Finalist at USA Swimming Senior Nationals
- Presenting for the USA Swimming Senior Network on the club vs high school swimming relationship
Scott’s long association with club swimming began at the age
of five when he joined HWSA. He competed there for six
years before joining RAF, where he swam until joining WEST in
1994. Scott swam with WEST until 2001 on a very talented
team full of Junior/Senior National and Olympic Trial qualifiers
that was coached by Dave Krotiak.
Scott attended Amos Alonzo Stagg High School where he was a
four-sport athlete (swimming, cross country, track, water
polo). He was a four-year varsity swimmer, serving as the
Team Captain his senior year. Scott was a three-year state
qualifier. Scott was Stagg’s 1997 Valedictorian and was
named the “most outstanding” male graduate.
Scott went to college at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT)
on the south side of Chicago on academic/swimming
scholarships. While at IIT, Scott competed all four years
under Dennis Matuch. He was a four-year NAIA National
Qualifier, becoming an All-American his last two years by finishing

rd in the 200 backstroke. Scott
was the Team Captain his senior year. Scott received
bachelor’s degrees in both mechanical engineering and
materials science engineering/metallurgy at IIT.

Coach Eugene has been with HSC since 2018 and serves as senior elite coach. His focus is primarily on our high school swimmers.
Coach Eugene has over 25 years of previous coaching experience. He previously served as Head Senior Coach and Associate Head Coach at Patriot Aquatic Club and Stevenson High School. His accomplishments include coaching swimmers at USA Swimming Junior Nationals, Illinois Senior State meet (securing both individual and team championships) and US Olympic trial qualifiers. His tenure is highlighted by:
- Coached 11 USA swimming summer junior national qualifiers in the August 2022 – August 2023 swim season plus an additional 2 USA swimming winter junior qualifiers
- Coached HSC to 3 consecutive top 12 combined team finishes in the spring NCSA junior nationals 2021-2023 culminating with a 10th place combined finish in 2022
- Coached 15 total team spring senior state championships. 8 women’s team titles, 1 men’s championship and 6 combined team titles (2011 – 2015, 2023)
- Coached at least one athlete to qualify for Olympic trials since 2004 (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2021)
- Coached HSC to a combined spring senior state team title in 2023. First in over 40 years
- Coached the NCSA men’s 400 freestyle relay champions in 2021
- Coached the winning Women’s 800 yard free relay at the USA Swimming Junior Nationals in back-to-back years (2013, 2014) with a Junior National Record in 2013. This marked the first time a team from Illinois won a national championship relay in nearly two decades.
- Coached PAC to 5 straight combined Illinois Short Course Senior State championships from 2011-2015. A state record.
- Coached at least one USA Swimming Summer Junior National Qualifier for the last 21 straight years.
- Coached 2 individuals who qualified for the NCSA All Star travel team with a top three individual finish that competed at the Irish National Championships (2010, 2015).
- Coached at least 1 top 8 individual finish for 4 consecutive years with 3 different swimmers at the USA Swimming Winter Junior Nationals from 2012-2015.
- Coached Women’s teams that finished top 15 in the final standings at the USA Swimming Winter Junior nationals for 4 straight years from 2012-2015.
Eugene was a 4 year letter winner in men’s swimming at University of Illinois at Chicago, all Horizon league 1995-1996. He was a member of Elmhurst College tennis and a volunteer assistant tennis coach in 2007.
Eugene is fluent in Russian. He holds a Master of Science in Business Analytics and Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications. He also has an Illinois Teaching License, certified in English and Physical Education.
Coach Shane comes to HSC after coaching at Life Time Illinois for the past 9 years. 4 years as the Warrenville Head Site Coach and 5 years as the Regional Coach and Warrenville Head Site Coach.
While at Life Time, Coach Shane saw the team go from having two Regional Qualifiers in 2016 when he started to winning three Regional Team trophies. This past season Life Time took 3rd Place at the 10 and Under State Meet winning its first ever State meet trophy and also had their first ever Individual State Champion and first ever Relay on the State podium which was one of Coach Shane’s biggest goals.
Coach Shane was also apart of Life Times first time ever attending the NCSA Age Group Championship Meet (2018) and NCSA Junior National Meet (2025).
Coach Shane has coached swimmers of all age groups and abilities. He loves to come up with creative practices and believes in getting to know the swimmers both in and out of the pool is key to having success. He believes that a lot can be achieved if the drive and motivation is there from the swimmer and coach!
He is the oldest of five siblings and they all swam competitively and in college. He majored in Sports Management and Business Administration and swam at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL where he also achieved Academic All-GLVC all four years. Coach Shane’s favorite part of college was their annual Training trip to Fort Pierce, FL every year.
Other Facts About Coach Shane
- He was on the State Championship Baseball his Junior year at Kaneland High School.
- He swam in the 2017 and 2018 Trans Tahoe Relay which is an open water race across Lake Tahoe in California and Nevada.
- He’s a big Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame Football, and Tom Brady fan.
- He loves hanging out with family and friends and traveling when he is not at the pool!
Coach Chuck joined HSC in 2013. Chuck started his swimming career at a very young age, at Salt Creek Swim and Tennis Club in Hinsdale. By the time he was 6, he was swimming at Hinsdale Swim Club. Not long after, he was he being coached by Hinsdale Swim Club's Bay Bateman. He continued swimming all the way through high school at Hinsdale Central, where he competed on the Varsity team under Coach Corky King.
Chuck has been coaching at Salt Creek since 2004, where he started working under Head Coach Bay Bateman. He became Head Coach of the SCC Gators in 2011 and Salt Creek's Director of Swimming in 2012. Chuck recently completed his 13th season at SCC, and 5th year as Director of Swimming. Chuck teaches his athletes to value the correct technique, healthy competition, and hard work. This will be Chuck’s 6th season coaching at Hinsdale Swim Club.
CJ is a former HSC swimmer, who joined the HSC coaching staff as an assistant coach in the Fall of 2019, and is the lead coach of the senior 1 advanced group. He has been involved with the sport of swimming for over a decade. He swam for Hinsdale Central's boys swim team from 2007-2011 under Coach King. While in high school, he competed in the IHSA State swimming meet his Junior and Senior years in the 100 fly, 400 free relay, and 200 medley relay. He went on to swim at Lincoln College and Olivet Nazarene University, making NJCAA/NAIA Nationals all four years in college.
CJ has 11 years of coaching experience. His coaching career started at Butterfield Country Club in high school. He has since had assistant coaching jobs with Olivet Nazarene University's swim team, the Academy Bullets, and Dunlap Dolphins Swim Team. In his career, he has coached numerous state and junior national qualifiers.
Coach Mark joined the Hinsdale Swim Club in September of 2021, fleeing the numerous lockdowns imposed in London (23 hours a day in your flat with one hour to be outside for three months at a time). He longed to be more than a Zoom coach and was overjoyed to join HSC.
Coach Mark has been coaching swimming since 1987 when he took a position at the Joliet YMCA Jets as the Age Group coach. The next year, Mark was promoted to Head Coach and a career was born. He has had stops in Lafayette, Louisiana, Naperville, Cairo, University of Chicago and London before coming to HSC.
Coach Mark has worked with all squads here at HSC but mainly works with the Squad 1 swimmers and the weekly “Animal Lane” and Distance practices.
Mark graduated with a Masters Degree in Psychology of Sport from Arizona State University in 1987 and was lucky enough to have presented his thesis at the 1988 Olympic Scientific Congress in Seoul, Korea.
Coach Brogan returns to HSC an assistant coach and will be the lead coach for Squad 2.
Coach Brogan is a former Hinsdale Central High School and HSC swimmer, and graduated from Eastern Illinois University where he was a member (and team captain) of their NCAA D1 men’s swim program.
Coach Brogan has been a member of the Salt Creek Club coaching staff for 11 years, and an assistant coach with HSC for the past 9 years. He recently helped start, and is currently the head coach of the Hinsdale Water Polo Club.
Coach Char’s swimming career took place in California – from a 9-year-old through college. She had the awesome and formative opportunity to swim on the Mission Viejo Nadadores and on the Walnut Creek Aquabears. While in college, Char coached a local summer swim team in Walnut Creek for three years.
After moving to Illinois, she began a Learn-to-Swim Program and worked with area swimmers for 12 years. During that time, she became the Aquatics and Fitness Director at Oak Brook Racquet & Fitness Club and Five Seasons Sports Club. She has coached local summer swim teams Hinsdale Golf Club and Five Seasons during the past 10 years in addition to coaching for HSC.
She is a Level 3 ASCA Swim Coach and is the lead coach for HSC’s Bronze, Silver, and Gold practice groups.
Char enjoys all water sports, cycling, and being outside. Building
strong, confident swimmers with solid technique and who love the
sport is her #1 goal.
Mike Adams has an extensive swimming and coaching history and is a lifetime lover of the sport. He swam himself for 12 years, including swimming at Ohio State.
Mike has over 40 years of coaching experience at summer teams, YMCA and USA Swimming clubs (including Academy Bullets, FOX and FMC). In addition, Mike has coached the high school level for several years. Mike has been the Head Coach for the Naperville Central Girls Swim Team from 2013-present, as well as the Naperville Central Boys coach since 1992. In that time, the Naperville Central Boys Team has had 14 State Champions and over 20 Top 10 IHSA State finishes. And Mike has been honored as the IHSA state Coach of the Year 7 times!
Mike is proud to have coached the 1992 and 1996 future Olympian Joey Hudepohl.
We are excited to welcome Mike Adams to HSC with all of his swim experience!
Coach Mirko comes to HSC with 22 years of coaching experience. In recent years he coached with M3 Aquatics (Head Age Group Coach), Hornets Swim Club (Head Coach), and with Lyons Swim Club (Assistant Head Coach and interim Co-Head Coach).
During his career as a Swim Coach, Coach Mirko has been responsible for running age and senior groups, handling day-to-day administrative operations and swimming practices, as well as working closely with Assistant Coaches and Board of Directors. His responsibilities also included educating athletes and parents. He coached athletes ages 6-21 and helped develop swimmers’ skills. His athletes are regular attendees of Regional, State, Zone, Sectional and Junior National level meets. He coached individual and relay state champions and medal winners.
Coach Mirko holds an American Swimming Coaches Association Level 3 certificate, he has a published article in WSCA Newsletter volume 2015 issue 03, and is an ASCA Fellow, Class 2014.
He was selected as a coach for Team Illinois for the Mega-Zone Meet in 2008 and Zone Meet in 2010, 2012, Junior Elite Camp in 2014 and Pro-Series Swim Camp in 2019. Coach Mirko served as a member of the Age Group Committee at Illinois Swimming.
Growing up in Serbia, Coach Mirko was an accomplished swimmer specializing in Butterfly and Individual Medley. He held numerous national titles and competed internationally. He received a B.S. in Economics at the University of Belgrade, Serbia before moving to and becoming a citizen of the United States. He has multiple finishes in top three in Illinois Masters Swimming State Meet, finished two Chicago marathons and finished the trek to Everest Base. Coach Mirko lives in South Loop with his family and embraces the opportunity to take HSC to new educational and competitive levels.
Coach Jeannie has been successfully working with HSC swimmers in the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels since 2021 and with the Midtown adult swimmers since 2010.
As for her background in swimming, Coach Jeannie initially was put into swimming to overcome a disability which allowed her to develop normally and with fewer complications if she had not taken up the sport. She started lessons at the age of 8 at the Berwyn Recreation Center and joined the Morton West, Morton East and Riverside Brookfield age group swim teams. She swam with Morton West high school on varsity all four years and in college at Triton achieved All-American status. In addition to coaching at HSC she is a coach at Midtown Athletic Club for a Laps & Drills class for adults that is designed to help improve technique, learn new strokes or just learn to swim in general. She is also a licensed massage therapist, certified personal trainer and enjoys working with kids.
Coach Jeannie loves to see kids and adults achieve improvements in their swimming making them more confident and happier overall. Swimming really is the best sport!
Originally from Minnesota, Kaylee swam collegiately at Iowa State University. After graduating in 2016, she began her coaching career with Wheaton Swim Club, working with the 8 & Under group from 2016 to 2019. In 2020, she moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, joining Scottsdale Aquatic Club as an assistant coach for the 11&12 Gold and Silver groups. Most recently, Kaylee has been coaching at Ansley Golf & Country Club in Atlanta, Georgia, where she provided private swim lessons for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
Kaylee is passionate about helping athletes reach their full potential both in and out of the water. She focuses on creating a challenging yet supportive environment that encourages growth, builds confidence, and fosters a lifelong love for swimming.
Inna joined HSC in the Fall of 2019.
Inna grew up club swimming for Westmont Swim Club, as well as the Hinsdale Central and Monmouth College swim teams. She jumped into triathlons in 2011, becoming a two time USAT Age Group National Qualifier in the Olympic Distance. She has coached swimming since her high school years, at teams including WEST Swim Club and Tiger Sharks Swim Club. She has also coached the Team Illinois Open Water Zone team. Inna's favorite swimming strokes and events are the breaststroke, backstroke, 200 IM and 200 Free.
Brian joined the HSC coaching staff in the Fall of 2019. He coaches various groups when available.
Brian began his swimming career at the age of 12 at Westmont Swim Club. He was a 4-year varsity swimmer at Hinsdale Central where he was on a state championship relay, the fastest public high school relay in the nation that year. He also helped lead the Hinsdale Central team to a state title in 2015.
Brian was the Aquatics Coordinator for the Village of Hinsdale and has been coaching the Hinsdale Town Team Stingrays at the Hinsdale community pool since 2013.
Coach Brian received a Bachelor’s degree in Mortuary Science from Southern Illinois University. He is also a full-time funeral director alongside his father at Powell funeral homes, in Hinsdale and surrounding communities.
Coach Danny grew up swimming for Maverick Swim Club and Naperville Central High School, where he led the high school boys team to an IHSA State Championship in 2010. Shortly after, he qualified for the NCSA’s junior national team and earned the opportunity to represent the US abroad and compete in Ireland.
Danny swam collegiately at Purdue University where he qualified for NCAA’s 3 years, earned All American honors 2 years, and was team captain his senior year. After college he stayed at Purdue for two years as a Graduate Assistant coach while training for the 2016 Olympic trials. He is still actively training and has his sights set on qualifying for his 4 th Olympic Trials in 2024.
Danny began his professional career as a Civil Engineer in Chicago. He previously coached at CWAC in the city before moving to the suburbs in 2023.
He is excited to continue working with swimmers to reach their next level of competition!

Denny grew up in Downers Grove, competing for Express Swim Team and Downers Grove North High School. Denny continued his swimming career at Augustana College where he served as a team captain for two seasons. After graduating Denny began coaching with Express Swim Team leading both Age Group and Senior level athletes. He most recently served in a similar role with Lyons Aquatics. He also spent one season coaching Lemont High School where athletes achieved many program firsts including state qualifiers, multiple team record breakers and an IHSA Conference Championship.
Denny has been coaching for over 12 years and is excited to start his HSC career. He believes in having fun and learning through new drills and techniques to help athletes achieve their goals! Every swimmer matters, every day counts!
He is married to Coach Morgan and enjoys running, watching sports and spending time with their two sons.
Morgan grew up in Woodridge and started swimming competitively in high school. She swam for Express Swim Team and Downers Grove North High School. Morgan continued her swimming career at Michigan State University where she set school records, competed in Big Ten finals and had an award named after her (Morgan Piasecki Spartan of the Year).
Morgan has coached with Express and Lyons and is excited to be a part of HSC. Morgan believes in strong technique, having fun and loving swimming.
Morgan is married to Coach Denny and enjoys family time, knitting, reading and being active with their two boys.
Co-owner of Trident Elite Athletics and owner of Miloperformance, with a host of experiences and mentors, Milo has had many opportunities to work with and alongside some of the best athletes in the world. This is his third year working with Hinsdale Swim Club.
In his experience working with athletes of every type, Coach Milo has developed a unique style of training that has proven to lead athletes to successful careers. Using the mechanics of each sport and its demands, he has been able to biomechanically break down the specifics of sport and the movements required to excel.
He has successfully helped many athletes become more in-tune with their bodies and move more efficiently, which is a no brainer when it comes to swim.
Throughout his time in this field of sport performance, he has seen many rare talents, and he knows what it takes in order to reach the elite level.
Milo is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University where he earned his Master’s degree in exercise physiology. With over 13 Years of experience working with elite athletes (most of which have earned scholarships at the collegiate level), Milo has found success in connecting the athlete back to why they perform in the first place.

Milo is excited to continue helping athletes reach their goals and be better than they were yesterday. With a team like HSC, a new goal emerges every day.
Lewis Porrata has over 20 years of experience as a personal trainer, working with a wide range of clients from youth athletes to older adults. He has helped individuals improve strength, muscle development, mobility, and overall performance, while also coaching competitive athletes in sport-specific training. A former competitive amateur bodybuilder and powerlifter, Lewis brings proven expertise in building strength and preventing injuries, with a passion for helping athletes and clients of all backgrounds reach their full potential.
Tim Rylander brings over 25 years of experience in sports performance and sports medicine to the Hinsdale Swim Club. As a licensed physical therapist, he combines his extensive clinical expertise with a passion for optimizing athletic potential. His diverse background and impressive credentials make him a valuable asset to athletes of all ages and skill levels.
Dr. Rylander is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), demonstrating advanced knowledge and skill in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. This specialization provides him with a deep understanding of the biomechanics and movement patterns crucial for swimming performance. He is also a Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), allowing him to design and implement targeted training programs that maximize strength, power, speed, and agility.
His commitment to the sport of swimming extends beyond rehabilitation and performance enhancement. Tim is a Certified Swim Coach by USA Swimming, giving him a unique perspective on the specific demands of competitive swimming. This dual expertise allows him to bridge the gap between dryland training and in-water performance, ensuring that training programs are tailored to enhance stroke efficiency, power, and endurance in the pool.
Coach Tim has a proven track record of working with athletes across a broad spectrum of experience, from "weekend warriors” to child athletes just beginning their athletic journey. He has also worked extensively with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes, helping them achieve their performance goals and overcome injury challenges. His experience with such a wide range of athletes has honed his ability to individualize training programs and address the specific needs of each athlete.
It is his combination of education, experience, and skill that makes Coach Tim exceptionally qualified to provide comprehensive dryland training and performance enhancement services to the Hinsdale Swim Club. He is dedicated to helping swimmers of all levels reach their full potential through evidence-based training strategies and a personalized approach.
